Extension Officer Cautions Farmers On Fire Outbreaks

Agriculture Extension Officer for the Yilo Krobo Municipality, Mr. Jeremiah Nuertey has advised the general public to be watchful about their activities as long as fire is concerned. Mr. Nuertey made the advice on the Rite Morning Ride on the Friday Morning Ride as part of his contributions to check fire outbreaks especially during these moments of the harmattan.

He cited the activities of hunters for instance whom he noted spark fires in the bushes as part of their hunting strategies to hunt down game.

Hunters are not the only culprits here. According to Mr. Nuertey, other culprits in this practice which invariably led to bushfires included smokers who also contributed to fire outbreaks in the country. He said the dry season has led to plants and crops losing water in them and that the little fire in contact with them is enough to spark fire and lead to destruction.

That is not all; he also called on palm-wine tappers to be cautious with the fires they set in the course of their activities as well as farmers who resort to the burning of their bushes after clearing the lands to adopt safe measures in the course of their activities so as to forestall the accidental fire outbreaks.
