ER: Media Group Appeals to President Akufo Addo to Retain Hon. S.K. Tetteh, 8 Other MMDCEs

An association of journalists and media practitioners in the Eastern Region is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to re-appoint some nine (9) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region.

According to the group, Eastern Media For Development (EM4D), in a press conference at Nkawkaw on Monday, Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh has performed creditably well in his first term as Chief Executive for Lower Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly.

 EM4D further proposed that George Ofori, Emmanuel Atta Ofori, Isaac Apaw Gyasi, Florence Governor, Comfort Asante, Margaret Darko Darkwa, Seth Oduro Boadu and Yaw Owusu of Kwahu Afram Plains, Kwahu South, New Juaben South, Ayesuano, New Juaben North, Suhum, West Akim and Kwahu West Assemblies respectively also deserve to be retained due to their hard work exhibited in their first term in office.

The Eastern Media For Development says it came to this conclusion after touring and investigation conducted indicates that the shortlisted MDCEs have executed their work in line with achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals and also parallel to guidelines of the National Development Planning Commission.

The Districts of Ghana are second-level administration subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of the region. 33 in the Eastern Region, there are 260 across the entire nation.

By the supreme law of Ghana, there shall be a District Chief Executive for every district who shall be appointed by the president and further obtain approval from a two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting at a meeting.

Being the chief representative of the central government in the district, the Chief Executive is responsible for the day-to-day performance of the executive and administrative functions of the District Assembly.

   The group which has pledged its readiness to work with all state institutions in the region is calling on the government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint the right people to the right positions at the right time.

“We pledge our readiness to work with the eleven paramouncies making the region, thirty-three Municipal and District Assemblies, thirty-three Members of Parliament as well as all agencies, departments and another pressure group in the Eastern region… it is appropriate to put the right people at the right positions at the right time.”  

After congratulating the former Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Mr. Seth Acheampong on his nomination as the Eastern Regional Minister, the group has encouraged him to put his outstanding experience to transform the region.

The Chairperson of the association, Mr. Emmanuel Maxwell Gyan has appealed to the appointing authority to consider a son of Kwahu into the cabinet ministerial role, to serve as an appreciation to the traditional area and citizens of Kwahu for their continuous support to the New Patriotic Party.

In addition to Hon. Seth Acheampong, Mr. Ken Ofori Attah, Mr. Amoako Attah, Mr. Daniel Kweku Botwe and Mr. Kojo Opong Nkrumah designated for Finance, Roads and Highways, Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development and Information Ministries respectively are from the Eastern Region.

 Their vetting is scheduled for 16th, 17th and 18th February, 2021, starting from Mr. Ken Ofori Atta through to Hon Oppong Nkrumah in that order. Meanwhile, Seth Acheampong will get his turn on the 26th February, 2021.
