ER: 3, 882 NPP Delegates to Elect 6 PCs For 2020 Elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be going to the polls tomorrow Saturday, September, 28, 2019 across 104 constituencies to elect parliamentary candidates for the 2020 general elections in constituencies where the party does not have sitting Members of Parliament (MP).

This action is in accordance with Article 12 of the the party’s constitution.

Like the other 15 regions, the Eastern region is conducting the election in 6 constituencies with 14 duly qualified aspiring candidates.

The component of the electoral collage includes, constituency executives, council of elders, council of patrons, electoral area coordinators, founding members where applicable and polling station executives – a component which forms majority.

The six (6) constituencies have a total of 3, 882 delegates with Yilo Krobo commanding the lion share.

In the Afram Plains North, 649 delegates will be entrusting their hope into one of these; Asiamah K. Anim and Isaac Ofori Koree to lock horns with yet to elect NDC’s candidate for the 2020 general elections.

Meanwhile, the neighbouring Afram Plains South with 545 delegates, will be casting their ballot on two aspirants, Jacob Zineyele and the 2016 candidate, William Hor. The winner will face the NDC returnee, Hon Joseph Appiah Boateng who beat his former Regional Secretary in the recent NDC parliamentary primaries.

In Lower Manya Krobo constituency, the Eastern regional deputy Minister and 2016 candidate, Hon. Samuel Nuertey Ayertey will be facing stiff opposition from a female legal practitioner and entrepreneur, Mrs. Linda Korkor-Tsu Adadevor.

The center for attraction, Agormanya Roman Catholic Parish Hall will host 713 delegates in addition to some party sympathizers.

The 2016 candidate and current deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Exim Bank Ghana, Kwame Adu Darkwa and the Former General Director of Ghana Port and Habours Authority, Paul Ansah will have their fate decided by 669 delegates of the Asugyaman constituency at the Apegusu Senior High School.

In Dr. Gabriel Odeh Apotey’s Yilo Krobo constituency, the 18 years constituency orginizer, Eric Tetteh is bent on beating his 2016 candidate, Francis Djetse Apertey.

But some polling station executives who spoke to ritefmonline.org say, the election could go either way since each of the 731 delegates understands what the primary mean to the constituency. The Somanya Community Center opposite the District Police Headquarters is the polling center.

545 delegates of Upper West Akim constituency have four aspirants to select from: Daniel Nortey Yeboah, Maxwell Tenkorang, Fredrick Obeng Adom and Eugene Sackey.

The exercise, all things being equal, will be opened from 10:00 am and closed 3:00 pm
