“Develop Satellite Markets In Your Districts”- Regional Minister

The Honourable Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour has urged the Districts and Municipal Assemblies in the region to develop at least one satellite market to address inadequate access to market being faced by farmers in the region.

The Minister made this statement when he addressed Municipal/District Chief Executives and their Directors of Agric at the End of the Year Party and Awards organised by Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Koforidua.
He said the satellite market when implemented will aid the farmers and prevent post-harvest loses as well as creating ready market for the farmers.
Adding that the MMDAs will also hit their revenue target to improve development in their area.
“the availability of the market do not just benefit the farmers but also the district and municipal assemblies since their source of income to turn the faces of their area.
Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour urged all the assemblies to take plea serious to create jobs to improve the economic status in their district and municipality.
Mr. Darfour commended them for their commitment in the successful implementation of government flagship programmed in Agriculture sector of the economy.

” Indeed, we were not embarrassed in any way when it came to the implementation of the Government flagship programme, (PFJ, PERD, etc),” he said.
He congratulated the Department for the well-organized National Farmer’s Day exhibition held in Ho, Volta Regional capital, where the region displayed several products: cassava, rice and mango value chain.

“My office and I are indeed very grateful for your efforts and zeal, you always put the Eastern Region first amongst others”, he stated.
Mr. Henry Kobina Crentsil, the Regional Director of Ministry of Food and Agriculture outlined some of the activities of the year and urged his directors work very hard to achieve the set objectives.
He said the department in the region will introduce what he term ” one pupil one fruit per day under the School feeding programme ” to address the nutritional needs of the pupils. The programme which has been lauded and endorsed by the Regional Minister.

In all, five Directors were rewarded for their exemplary leadership exhibited in the year 2019 under review. The best Director went to Mr. Isaac Man, the Municipal Director for Birem Central.
