Depoliticize Distribution Of Farm Inputs

By Austin Ofori:

Mr. John Adakwah, a farmer based in the Asuogyaman district of the eastern region has descended heavily on the process and means of distributing certain farm inputs such as fertilizers in the district. Mr. Adarkwah accuses distribution officials of politicking the process by favouring only party faithful resulting in only few people benefiting.

But that is not his only concern. Mr. Adarkwah tells Rite news that, Asuogyaman does not even boast of a fertilizer storage room in the district.

The reason for the recently held Farmers Day was among others to recognize the contributions of farmers across the country and encourage them to work even harder. The awards were intended to make farmers feel appreciated but contrary to expectations, some farmers continue to complain even after the event on December 4th.

One such disappointed and frustrated farmer, Mr. John Adjakwah, agreed with the suggestion that farmers, especially in his district were not getting any help from the Central government, adding that even feeding their families is a bother to most farmers.

He agreed with the selection process of settling on the best farmers but believes that more advanced and improved means should be adopted to make the process more transparent and appreciated.

Mr. Adarkwah added that government should unite all award winners as a means of attracting the youth into the agric sector.
