A Tamale High Court on Thursday placed an injunction on the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Bunkprugu Constituency in the Northern Region.
Accordingly, elections will not come up in the area today.
The NDC’s Northern Regional Director of Elections, who is also the Regional Treasurer, Mr Rashid Tanko Computer, confirmed this to Graphic Online in an interview.
He said the injunction was brought against the party by an aspirant, Mr Derrick Nanburi, who was disqualified from the contest.
The court, presided over by Mr Charles Gyamfi-Danquah, granted the injunction tendered by Mr Nanburi’s counsel, Mr Sulley Sambian, who challenged the disqualification of his client.
Mr Nanburi is said to have been disqualified by the party as a result of his alleged association with the National Democratic Party (NDP).
The aspirants who were cleared as successful at the vetting are Dr Benson Boinkum Konlaan, Jagong Tahidu, Duut Bonchel Abdulai, Anthony Bueteem, and Azumah Konlan.
In all, 106 aspirants are taking part in the primaries in the Northern Region.
A total of 321,000 delegates are expected to cast their ballot in the primaries in the region which will take place in 740 voting centers.
