Construction Work Begins On Manya-Kpongunor-Old Bana School Road

A 2.1 Km stretch of road, spanning from Kpongunor Salem to old Bana School in the Lower Manya Krobo municipal in the Eastern region was awarded into contract for rehabilitation beginning May, 2020.

The rehabilitation of the road is expected to ease the inconveniences of commuters of the road as they enjoy smooth shuttling to facilitate development.
The project is not only important for commercial activities, but also vital for education due to a number of educational facilities along the road.


The project, which has been awarded to Memphis Company Limited is expected to be completed within 12 months though contractors have assured to complete in six months.

Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Nuertey Ayertey and Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo, Simon Kweku Tetteh led a delegation to perform the brief sod-cutting ceremony paving way for commencement of work.

Mr. Ayertey indicated that the year of roads agenda is still on course.

“What we have all witnessed here today is a clear indication that the year of roads agenda is still on course and we will deliver all promises. This project is part of a 10 Km road projects awarded to various contractors in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. As we speak, majority of the contractors are moving to the site for work,” Mr Ayertey noted.


“This project, upon completion, will create an avenue for future projects in the catchment area of the municipality and, we may consider bringing one of the Presbyterian University College Campuses to the area in future,” the Deputy Minister added.


The MCE on his part, gave a firm assurance of quality work from the contractors to ensure that the people get value for money.
“One thing I can assure you of is that for NPP government, we don’t usually do shoddy work,” Mr. Simon Kweku Tetteh assured.

“If your work is not the best of the quality that we want, the road minister and the deputy eastern regional minister and myself will come and stop the work.”

He expressed confidence in the contractors to deliver quality work, as shoddy roads will not benefit the people and the community as expected.
The Assembly Chief also gave the firm assurance of the speedy completion of the project, adding that local labour would be provided for the construction works.

Chairperson of the Dangme-Tongu Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Samuel Atter Odjelua who, regretted the bad nature of the Bana-Manya-Kpongunor road said several attempts to get the road fixed over the years had failed.

He was however grateful to the government that contract had finally been awarded for the construction of the road; praying that work is completed on time as it would enhance patronage of various activities held at the center.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Dorm Matse, Nene Bediako Baah Muala III, party executives of the New Patriotic Party and some Assembly Members.


The ceremony was greeted with immense relief by people living along the road knowing, it would enhance convenient and smooth travelling experience in the area.

The Manya-Kpongunor-old Bana school road is part of a total of 10.1 kilometers of roads being phase 1 of road projects currently awarded for construction in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
Other road projects forming part include the Atua Government Hospital Road, Agomanya Airport-Agbom Link, Nuaso Town Road, Kpong Quarters Street and the Kpong Beach Road.
