By: Austin Ofori  Addo

The Ashanti Regional Manager of Cocoa Health and Extension Division under the Cocoa Board, Mrs. Faustina Asamani has assured farmers in the region whose cocoa farms were recently consumed by bush-fires that they would be rehabilitated by the government free of charge.

That is not all; she also made the firm assurance that those who were affected by insects which also led to the destruction of their crops are equally to benefit from the rehabilitation.

Mrs. Asamani was addressing over 1000 farmers at Gyereso, a cocoa growing village near Tano-Odumase on their 1st edition of ‘Farmers Rally’, a sensitization event to educate farmers on new methods of farming by using requisite approved chemicals to boost the country’s cocoa production.

Mrs. Asamani said the Ashanti Region will receive 10.2 million free hybrid cocoa seedlings from the government out of the total of 60 million seedlings to be distributed to cocoa farmers throughout the country.

She added that the farmers have to register in the various Cocoa Board offices or with any community extension agents before the seedlings and fertilizers are given out, based on their strength and quantity needed, stressing that the seedlings are to be distributed freely.
