Cocoa Farmers Demonstrate Against Relocation Of Their Office To Sunyani

Cocoa Farmers from Techiman, Nkoranza, Wenchi and Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region numbering about 300 have staged a demonstration.

The demonstration was staged in Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region to avert the decision to relocate their office to the regional Capital Sunyani.

The demonstration took about two hours and demonstrators did it through the principal streets of Techiman and later presented the petition to the Techiman Municipal Assembly.

Presenting the petition the Vice Chairman of the Cocoa Farmaers Association, Mr. Akwasi Nsiah said the Office has been there since 1983 and has helped farmers a lot therefore any attempt to relocate it to the Regional Capital would worry farmers a lot.

Mr. Nsiah said the Techiman Traditional Council has allocated to them 400 acres of land located at Kuntunuso a suburb of the Municipal to be used as Garden Unit to promote farmers so why then the relocation he questioned.

He called on the Municipal Assembly to do something about the situation since farmers in Wenchi, Nkoranza, Kintampo and Techiman farming areas cant afford to go to Sunyani incase the need arises.

Receiving the Petition from the Farmers who were singing and chanting war songs, the Deputy Coordinating Director, Mr. Joseph K. B. Tang said the Municipal Assembly would do their best to engage the COCOBOD in other to save the situation.

He said the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Philip Oppong Amponsah who had traveled would work together with stakeholders involved to bring the situation under control.
