President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his strongest resolve yet to boost coffee and coffee production in the country to an all-time high. The president who made the pledge during Thursday’s state of the nation address said that his administration will make sure it increases coffee production in Ghana as well as the production of cocoa through the COCOBOD.

According to the president, Ghana currently exports about six thousand metric tons of coffee in a year and it’s the hope of government to increase this astronomically to a hundred thousand metric tons in a very short medium.

On cocoa, the president said government through COCOBOD is promoting coffee cultivation in areas such as Terchiman, Wenchi, Bechem, Nkroranza among others, which are being targeted for aggressive promotion of coffee cultivation.

He added that in the 2013/2014 farming season, the government promised to give fertilizers to cocoa farmers free of charge and also enhance the mass cocoa spraying exercise to boost production.

President Mahama meanwhile revealed that government intends to commence a new initiative in palm oil production in Ghana for exportation and local consumption.
