Christiana Amanor Wins 2019 Asuogyaman Spelling Competition

 Ahead of the June 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the Asuogyaman Directorate of Education has organized a spelling competition for basic schools in the district.

The exercise was part of programmes initiated by the directorate to build and prepare the academic strength of pupils in the district towards their first national examination.

A JHS 3 Christiana Amanor of Senchi New Akrade Presby, who emerged winner of the spelling competition after receiving a price of Longman Dictionary, exercise books expressed her gratitude to God Almighty, the organizers of the program and the teachers.

She was also promised scholarship support by Mr. Paul Asare Ansah, formerly of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

Asuogyaman District Director of Education, Miss Theodora Kutorkor appealed to authorities and stakeholders in her district to support produce more quality graduates for the district.

According to her, the district had 67.9% in the 2017, 73% in 2018, and expects to make 100% in 2019 B.E.C.E.

 Previously, the district had a conference for JHS 3 girls preparing to write exam. The aim was to promote girl child education, and see more girls advancing to the Senior High School.

  The Former Director General for Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority and current Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Roads and Transport, Mr. Paul Ansah Asare also appealed to parents and relatives to assist children in their school needs since his uncle made him who he is today.

More than 500,000 candidates will write this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination across the country, beginning Monday June 10.

The exams, scheduled to run from Monday June 10 to 14, 2019, will have 16,871 participating schools, 1,880 supervisors, 1,710 assistant supervisors and 18,136 invigilators.

Out of the total number, Ashanti Region has the highest number of 104,461 candidates, followed by Greater Accra Region with 90,584, while Upper West has the least number of 13,109 candidates for the exams.

Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, the Head of Public Relations, West Africa Examination Council in an interview with the media, said all was set for the commencement of the exams.
