Case Study: Close To 100% Ghanaian Men Will Be Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer At Age 70 yrs

Aging is one of the well-established risk factors for prostate cancer. It is believed that prostate cancer affects men after age 40years. However, in Asian territories, the centenarians who live up to 145years have lower incidence of prostate cancer with no prostate cancer warning signs. This research study was conducted to investigate if aging has a strong correlation or association to men of West African descent especially Ghanaian men high prostate cancer incidence rate.

This case study focus on 10 Ghanaian men aged 70years and above who came to the Men’s Health Foundation Ghana established clinic for men in Ghana at Dodowa, Akoto House. The men were screened for prostate cancer using the PSA test. A simple blood was taken for the PSA analysis. The men were very educated and retired and know about prostate cancer through the media. They are Christians.

The men aged 70years had rising PSA level starting from 11.05ng/ml to 26.05ng/ml. They were referred to the appropriate institutions and came with biopsy proven prostate cancer. The men also present with prostate cancer warning signs. The only advantage was that their cancers were localized or organ confined prostate cancer meaning it is a slow growing type of prostate cancer but whether these men needs immediate treatment is what I current can’t tell as prostate cancer is more aggressive in black men because of biochemical and other factors even though they have the slow growing type of cancer, Will the cancer become more aggressive if left untreated for some time as they aged?

My findings present that all the 10 men came back with biopsy proven prostate cancer. In conclusion, Prostate cancer is closer to Ghanaian men than before and more men are really worried about prostate cancer as they age. For men in Ghana, it is very important to pay lot of attention to their prostate health as the aging process takes place. But let look at this? Does it also mean that we should not age? Should we die young, in our fifties or sixties? Is prostate cancer the natural state of Ghanaian men as they aged? In reality, this case study I bring to you mean that the longer Ghanaian men age or stay on the earth, the higher their risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer but whether the cancer will kill them or not is what I can’t tell from this research study.

So, I urged you Ghanaian men to take charge of your prostate health and practice lifestyle modifications because we can avoid or prevent this.
