Business Advisary Center Lauds Disabled in Yilo Krobo District

Story by: Elizabeth Frimpong

Nana Yaw, Head of Business Advisory Center (BAC) of the Yilo Krobo District Assembly has advised persons with disability in his district and everywhere not to look down on themselves, by using their situation as a yardstick that they cannot do anything but should rather have confidence that they can do something meaningful for a living. He said this on Tuesday March 08, 2016 during the Rite 90.1 FM/ USAID Funded radio program ‘’FEED THE FUTURE PLATFORM’’.

He also urged the disabled to do away with the misconceptions that they are inferior in the community, and rather see themselves as perfect people who can also go into agribusiness. He mentioned one disable in the Northern Region of Ghana that has been able to rear 1000 guinea birds through the guidance and support of Business Advisory Center.

Nana Yaw again explained that, his center in collaboration with the Community Development Center gives training and advice to those who want to establish any business including agribusiness, not forgetting persons with disabilities as well. They also make sure that, after the training and advise they are given; they follow up to know if the people are making good use of it.

According to him, they have a start-up-kit for those interested to go into any business. They have also initiated a program for the disabled this year, which is a training session for the disabled in grass cutter rearing which will take off between May and July. He said, they are however ready to receive the disabled who will call on them for aid.

According to Mr. Geoffrey K. Honu, Director of Agriculture in the Upper Manya District, on an online discussion during the program, stated that there is a program called ‘’Social Investment Fund (SIF)’’ for those in the agricultural sector and that  includes the disabled as well. The program will help them to acquire knowledge and skills through training and education. They also give agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, knapsack sprayers and the others that will help disabled in the agribusiness.
