Best Farmer Spells Out Challenges

By Doris Ampommea:

Mr. Ibrahim Misa, 2015 Brong Ahafo regional best Farmer has, despite his position as best regional farmer told Rite news about some dire challenges confronting farmers and the farming sector in the country.

Speaking to Mr. Misa on the Akuafo Se Sen segment of the Rite Morning Ride on Friday, he explained that some of the challenges they are currently facing include the delay in the release of such inputs as fertilizers and chemicals.

But that is not all. To him, the climate change has been another ‘disaster’ to farmers in the past one year. The regional best farmer who believes that water is life laments that the absence of the rains continue to affect both crops and livestock.

Although he admits that the past year was not so bad, he still fervently hopes that enough rainfall is recorded this year, particularly in the middle of the year in order to boost crop production. He went on to lament about the spate of bushfires which continue to devastate farms, adding that a lot of foodstuffs have already been lost to the fires.

Mr. Misa was particularly worried that Ghanaians stood the risk of hunger if the current trend continued.

He has thus appealed to the government and the Minister of Food and Agric to come to their assistance in order to boost agricultural production in the country.
