BECE should be scrapped – MP

The Member of Parliament for Nabdam Constituency, Boniface Gambila Adagbila, is calling for the abolishment of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr Adagbila, who made the suggestion, said a better alternative to the BECE would be for students to write aptitude tests in order to be promoted from junior high level to senior level.

According to the former National Service boss, his suggestion is based on the persistent issues associated with examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council as well as the unfair advantage the current system grants to students from private schools over those in public schools.

He says it will be better for students in the country to be made to write “credible” aptitude tests rather than take examinations that is bogged by a credibility crisis.

He says the ruling NDC must apologise to the NPP and its flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for ridiculing the party’s policies during the 2012 campaign period only to turn round and implement them subsequently.

He explains, it is unfair for the NDC to criticize the NPP’s free education policy only to turn around and implement key aspects of the policy.
