Award Winners Are Neglected from Government Benefits – Best Farmer

The 2012 Second National Best Farmer and Chief Executive Officer of First Star Limited, Mr. Enoch Teye has said government has neglected farmers after giving them the award.

He said after the awards presentation they don’t receive any support from government any more.

Speaking on the Agric Forum on Rite FM last Saturday, Mr. Teye who is also an executive member of National Farmers and Fishermen Award Winners Association of Ghana (NFFAWAG) explained that awards presented to farmers in a form of a house, vehicle, farming input and others normally delay before it get to the farmers there by making it difficult for the farmers to enhance their production.

He further stated that, as award winners, people come to them for research purposes but because they lack facilities, teaching them becomes a big problem.

Commenting on the recent press conference held in Accra by NFFAWAG concerning the delay in the supply of subsidized fertilizers, Mr.Teye stated that it is necessary for the farmers to voice out their problems for government to take drastic decision to save the agriculture sector from collapsing and that is what we have basically done. He said

He therefore appealed to Yara Ghana Limited a fertilizer producing company to consider a comeback to the fertilizer supply programme.
