Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa roads to be completed soon

The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Chief Executive, Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway has said very soon the issue of bad roads in the area will be a thing of the past.

He said this during a working visit to the construction site of the re-shaping of a 12.5 kilometer road from the Traffic Light in Breman Asikuma Township to Breman Ochiswa, which had been badly damaged.

The project which is about 85 per cent complete is under Urban Roads and is being funded by the Government of Ghana (GOG).

The tour took the DCE and his entourage to inspect ongoing market project at Kokoso and also the re-sharping of a 10.5 kilometer feeder road from Brakwa, Eduasia to Afofoso.

In an interview with newsmen at the site, the DCE said the project came about through the initiative of the then DCE Madam Georgina Nkrumah Aboah and the current Member of Parliament of the area.

Mr. Adom Botchway said, people in the area are farmers and most of them are in Cocoa production and as result of the bad nature of the roads, they went through tribulation and hardships before they were able to convey their products to the district capital for sales.

“I hope after completion of the projects it will not only boost the farmer’s moral to increase cocoa and other cash crops production , but will also address the issue of frequent breakdowns of vehicles on the road and stop drivers from charging high fair as result of the road”.

He commended, Kofi Job Contraction Limited, the contractor working on the road from Breman Asikuma to Ochiswa for a good work done and especially for the construction of a Culvert Bridge which was not part of the contract biding.

The DEC said, while the goverment was fulfilling his promises to better the lot of the people, there was the need for the people to reciprocate what the government was offering them by contributing their quota in teams of honoring their obligations as citizens.

He said his outfit will ensure that recalcitrant drivers who ply the area were arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrents to others, and cautioned all drivers to observe and comply with road traffic regulation.

Later in an interview with GNA, some of the drivers who ply the route and people in the area said they were grateful to the government for re-constructing the roads and expressed the hope that after the completion, there would be free flow of goods and services.
