ASHTECH In Hot Waters As Assembly Threatens Court Action

The Akro Secondary Technical Senior High School otherwise referred to as Akro SEC TECH in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal was accused for polluting the environment and residents closer to the school with what is describe as smoke nuisance.

Confirming the story to Rite FM, Mr. Gordon Amevor who is the Municipal Sanitation and Environmental Health Officer for Lower Manya Krobo, says the charge from the public against the school is true.

“These malpractices have been going on for 6 months now. I went there personally and the residents have also complained bitterly that the situation is affecting their health,” he said.

Mr. Gordon Amevor further disclosed that, he will prosecute the school and a group of individuals who has also been accused for burning charcoal in the same vicinity for court should they fail to put a stop to their actions by close of day Friday, 13 September, 2019.

“I have given them altimatum up to September 13, 2019. If they don’t stop burning the rubbish, I am ready to take them to court because there is nothing like politics when it comes to sanitation”, he told host of Community Watch, Omanba Kodwo Boafo.

Likely prosecution charges the environmental health expert would be slapped on them are environmental pollution and smoke nuisance.

Burning and burying of waste, are waste management practices health connoisseurs discourage.

However, Rite FM’s follow up on calls from residents around the school that the second cycle institution is engaging in environmental pollution, the headmaster of the school, Mr. Philip Donkor told Sylvester Tetteh and Nyamekye Mac-Jerry, the acceptable practices are the ones he has resorted to.

Mr. Philip Donkor’s measures to avert the environmental hazardous situation was that the victims of the situation should have come themselves if they need solution.

He has, however, edged Rite FM to go ahead and broadcast its observations and findings.
