Asawase Bloody Clash: NPP Intentionally Creates Fear and Panic – Ashanti Region NDC

The Ashanti Regional secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Kwame-Zu has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for deliberately causing fear and panic among the people of Asawase to wade them off the ongoing Limited Registration exercise.

There was a violence clash at the Asokore Mampong Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission following misunderstanding between the two parties.

They hurled stones at each other’s direction, according to multiple media report.

Speaking to Rite FM on Monday, Mr. Kwame-Zu said, the NPP was doing everything possible to put fear into the Asawase constituents not to come out and register.

He claimed even in the slumber of the National Democratic Congress in the Asawase Constituency, the NPP is a no match.

“The NDC can win the Asawase seat even in its slumber so there was no need for us to fight over that seat,” Mr Kwame told Austin Ofori Addo on Morning Ride.

Mr. Kwame-Zu revealed that on Thursday after the day’s registration, his party had a tip off that, the NPP executive took some children (minors) to Asokore Mampong to be registered.

“One of the children out of fear reported the issue to one of the NDC Executive members who also with the help of the MP for Asawase reported officially to the police.”

The Regional Chairman for the NPP, Mr. Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Wontumi has decline comment on the issue, saying it is with the police.

But he, has however, accused Hon. Muntakar Mubarak, Member of Parliammemnt for Asawase for slapping a woman.

A joint police and military team is guarding the Asawase constituency registration centre in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise in the Ashanti Region after a bloody clash between supporters of the two main parties on Friday.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were driven out the registration centre following the clash. Only their accredited officials have been allowed to remain at the centre.

The exercise, which was supposed to start at 7 a.m. today, Saturday, 29 June started at 10:30 a.m. due to the security measures that were being put in place.

Calm has now returned to the registration centre due to the presence of the security team.
