The issue in contention is the paternity of the 12-week pregnancy being carried by Ms Kwablah.
While the woman claims Gyan is responsible for the pregnancy, he is contesting the claim.
Following her alleged rape and sodomy charges against the footballer, the Daily Graphic contacted the Odorkor Divisional Police Command where the case is said to have been reported.
Character Assassination
The Odorkor District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Mr Abraham Acquaye, said about a month ago Gyan’s lawyer, Mr Kissi Agyabeng, and the player’s Manager, Mr Samuel Anim Addo, reported a case of an attempt by Sarah to drag Gyan’s name in the mud.
According to Mr Acquaye, the complainants claimed Sarah had threatened to publish a video of Gyan and she in a sexual rendezvous.
However, he said Sarah, who was invited to the Odorkor Police Station as part of investigations on May 5, 2015, denied having a video of their sexual encounter “and that there was no mention of rape or sodomy against Gyan”.
He said at the meeting, Gyan and Sarah admitted that they had a consensual relationship between them.
No video tape
Sarah, who had been accompanied to the police station by her lawyer, Dr Maurice Ampaw, rather told the police that she had been impregnated by Gyan but he was failing to accept responsibility for the pregnancy.
He said the police explained to Sarah that it was a criminal act to publish obscene materials.
For putting her in the family way, he said, Sarah was demanding an apartment, a paid house help and some money for her upkeep monthly from Gyan.
He said the two parties then decided it was a domestic issue and that they wanted to resolve it amicably between them.
“Yet on the issue of the paternity and maintenance, Sarah was advised to undergo an ultra-scan to establish the veracity of her claim,” the commander said.
DNA test
Following the ultra-scan, Mr Acquaye said it was found that Sarah was eight weeks pregnant.
Gyan, he said, doubted the paternity, since he claimed he had sex with Sarah more than eight weeks ago.
“Since there was discrepancy over the date of the sexual affair and the duration of the pregnancy, Gyan requested a DNA test to establish the paternity of the unborn baby. But because the pregnancy was only eight weeks, we had to wait for it to be 12 weeks, as the medical experts claimed the DNA could only be done from the 12th week of pregnancy,” he said.
To resolve the issue, Sarah agreed to undergo the DNA test, after which Gyan agreed to give her GH¢2,000 to cater for her antenatal expenses until the paternity of the foetus was determined.
Mr Acquaye said on Monday, June 22, 2015, Gyan’s lawyer, Mr Agyabeng, handed over the GH¢2,000 to the police and the money had since been given to Sarah’s lawyer, Dr Ampaw.
“From the point of view of the police, the issue had been resolved. We were surprised, therefore, to hear the case taking different dimensions in the media this morning,” he said.
