Apply Right Chemicals To Fight Army Worms – Shakespeare Dzokoto

By Austin Ofori Addo:

Mr. Shakespeare Djokoto, an Agriculture Consultant and Agronomist has revealed on the Rite Morning Ride that the issue of army worms invasion is becoming a serious one because farmers are not using the right drugs to fight them. According to the renowned agronomist, affected farmers are resorting to the use of fake drugs which in the end do not have any effect on the army worms when sprayed.

He added that sometimes when a chemical is tested it proves positive but after that testing they give the fake ones. He said we have TRAHALUTRIN but they are all from China which does not work as expected but there is a chemical called karate which is good but it’s not in the market.

According to him, the armyworm invasion mostly happens during the dry season and normally attack cassava but since they do not have access to it they now turn to affect maize crops. He noted that the armyworms feed twenty four hours, feeding on any crops that they come across.

Mr. Dzokoto argued that it’s the work of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, MOFA, to lead the fight against the pests but they do not have the means to visit the various farms.
