Akua Donkor in cocoa farm brawl

A 70-year-old retired teacher has accused the founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) of defrauding him to the tune of GHC25, 000 under the pretext of selling a cocoa farm to him.

Opanin Kwaku Duah speaking on Nhyira FM in Kumasi claimed he paid the amount to the political leader in 2012 after the two agreed that Akua Donkor would sell a cocoa farm to him.

He added that Akua Donkor issued a receipt to cover only the first installment of GHC10,000.

“She first gave me a receipt covering the first installment of 100 million [10,000 Ghana cedis], she then decided to give me a receipt covering the remaining 150 million [150,000 Ghana cedis] when she returns from a trip to Accra…,” Opanin Duah said.

The retired teacher claims Akua Donkor has since been avoiding him and “always cut calls to her anytime she hears my voice on the phone.”

The retiree continued that he was forced to go to her hometown of Adweretia to meet an uncle of Akua Donkor about the deal.

“However, when I asked her uncle called Badu about the cocoa farm, he denied ever giving the said cocoa farm to Akua Donkor and hence instructed me to go and collect my money from her…,” Opanin Duah added.

The claim by the Uncle, Opanin Duah said was refuted by Akua Donkor with the excuse that her Uncle, Badu, was only jealous of her because she never gave him part of the money.

Opanin Kwaku Duah further claimed that several attempts to trace Akua Donkor for the money have proved futile despite another chief insisting that Opanin Duah be given back his money because the cocoa farm is not for sale.

However, when Akua Donkor was contacted, she declined to speak to the station after the issue was explained to her.

“Why call me at a time when I am sleeping…what did he say, was his name….I have no response for you…,” she said.
