Akateng Chiefs Bare Teeth At Fulani

Farmers and fishermen at Akateng in the Upper Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region are the latest farming folks in the country to express the fear of their lives following the invasion of their communities by Fulani herdsmen, their activities which have resulted in the destruction of their farms and farm produce.

Speaking to Nene Amanor Som I, chief of Akateng in an interview with Rite news, he lamented that residents of Akateng are really hard working and have deep passion for farming. He added that coupled with this their fertile land which also aids farming in the area.

He added that, despite the above qualities mentioned, there are nevertheless challenges which continue to confront them which tend to be a hindrance to the growth of agric in the area. This he contends are serious challenges which serve as disincentive to the youth in his community and which tend to discourage them from venturing into agriculture.

To him, the activities of the Fulani herdsmen are destroying their farmlands as they do go into their farms to execute their plans activities.

Nene Amanor pointed out that security personnel were deployed to the community to maintain peace in the area, adding that though the Fulanis herd the cattle, they do not actually own them but their employers.

He said he had met with his elders and have resolved to stop the invasion of the herdsmen.

Nene Amanor believes that the laws of the country can regulate the activities of the Fulani headsmen in order to safeguard the interest of the farmers.
