According to the former leader, the agric sector is one endowed with several prospects with the potential of securing job prospects for youth who venture into it.

Mr. Rawlings made the call during a dinner encounter and a courtesy call on him at his residence at Ridge in Accra by the AG-STUD Boot camp 2018 as part of activities for the three-day event held between 20th and 22nd of February, 2018.

The AG-STUD Boot Camp 2018 was a three day program organized by the Agrihouse Foundation which targeted the development of youth and student leadership and discuss the challenges and opportunities in the corporate world of agribusiness and its value chain system.

The three day Boot Camp was climaxed with a presidential dinner and networking with the former president on Friday.

He also expressed regret in not having a farm to underscore his farming activities. “I regret for not having a demonstration farm to tell my farming achievements,” the former Ghanaian leader said further.

He also recounted a famine period in the country’s history where he had the opportunity to start up a cassava plantation to feed his soldiers during the era of the country’s former leader, the late Kutu Acheampong.

The female students were also charged to take advantage of the agric sector. Citing the 31st December women’s movement as a yardstick to urge them into grabbing the opportunities available in the sector, ex-president Rawlings said the movement succeeded largely due to the determination of the women.

“You must grab equal opportunities in the sector since women are mostly abused in society and seen as the vulnerable,” he said. “The 31st December Women’s Movement succeeded because the women were so determined, hardworking and supportive to each other rather than indulging in immoral acts which could ruin their lives.”

The AG-STUD Boot camp 2018 weaves a never ending link between employers and potential employees and agribusiness students within the tertiary institutions.

Agrihouse Foundation is a non-governmental agricultural capacity building organization with a special focus on the promotion of, and changing perception of agriculture through tactical programs and initiatives for students, women, farmers, farming associations, agribusinesses and the entire actors within the value chain.
