The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto on October 26 resumed his regional working tour to the Eastern region.

The second leg of the working tour comes at the heels of similar successful ones undertaken to the three regions of the north.

The visit largely focused on the Government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme and the level of successes achieved in the regions.

The tour also afforded the Minister the opportunity to undertake field tours to some project sites and farms where he also took the opportunity to interact with farmers and acquaint himself with challenges confronting their activities.

Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto as part of his tour held a staff durbar and also interacted with farmers as well as paid familiarization tours to various Planting for Food and Jobs fields.

The Minister and his entourage also visited the Afram Plains to inspect the Cattle Ranching Project which is expected to feature prominently in the Rearing for Food and Jobs, an initiative by the Ministry to revamp the livestock industry and also address the menace of Fulani herdsmen and community clashes.

Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto as part of the tour of the region paid a courtesy call on the Eastern regional minister, Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour before addressing a Staff Durbar in Koforidua involving the Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. Henry Crentsil Jnr, District Coordinating Directors of the PFJ, District Directors of agriculture with 2 Agric Extension Agents per district and staff of the PPRSD.
