Agric Director Praises Crucial Role Of Women In Agric Sector

By Austin Ofori Addo:

Deputy Director of women in Agric under the ministry of food and agriculture, Madam Victoria Aniaku said women are playing a vital role in the Agric sector to make sure that the sector improves in the right direction.

According to the deputy director, the women in Agric program is in progress because a lot of women are in the Agric sector through the agriculture chain from production through processing to marketing and women are all over these areas.

According to her, if women do not engage in all these activities, then we can all imagine what could have been the state of agriculture in the country. This according to her is because, just as men, the women equally play a good role in upholding the agric sector, adding that women are also doing very well as far as the agric sector is concerned.

Madam Aniaku went on to praise the contributions of women by saying that women are far ahead in farming these days. She said while most men produce for sale, women on the other hand produce to feed our various homes and so in a way, women are feeding the nation.

She emphasized that there are about 60 percent of women either directly or indirectly involved in Agriculture. While some of them are into farming, about 80 percent of them are in the processing and marketing end of the value chain. In view of these contributions of women therefore, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has decided to help the women and the youth in agric.
