Agric consultant advocate for passage of bill against weeding

Mr. Shakespeare Dzokoto, an Agric. consultant has advocated for the passage of a bill in parliament as a law to restrict punishing students in the form of weeding.

According to him, he is foreseeing that, the practice or the trend has gradually compelled the youth not to go into agriculture because the students see anything related to agriculture like punishment to them.

He added that this is because, most teachers punish the students in the form of weeding anytime they offend the school rules or misbehave. Mr. Dzokoto made these comments to Rite FM news in reaction to a second year student of the Effiduase senior high school in the Ashanti Region, Ebenezer Kusi who died from self-inflicted cutlass wounds as a result of weeding punishment.

Mr. Dzokoto has urged teachers to look for alternative ways of punishing the school children rather than giving them a portion of land to weed. He suggested that, the school authorities can punish the student to clean the dining hall and dormitory louver blades, scrub school toilets etc but not weeding.

Mr. Dzokoto has declared that, he will always do the advocacy where ever he goes to make sure that this kind of practice stops.
