AGRA’s Agenda 2020

Story By: Zigi Reginald Mawuli:

The Ghana branch of Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa yesterday, held their last session of a two day stakeholder’s business consultative forum at La Palm Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

The two days forum which sorted the contributions of Government Officials, Development partners, Private sector operators, AGRA grantees, Civil Servant Organizations and the media was to ensure that AGRA’s newly outdoored five years business plan which will commence this year 2016 and end by 2020 was to enable strategic alignment with Government’s agricultural transformation agenda, contribute to the delivery of agricultural transformation in Ghana, and partnership with strategic stakeholders on national agricultural enhancement for Africa.

According to Mr. Kehinde Makinde, the AGRA Ghana Business Plan Team Leader, the new strategic Business Plan for AGRA will be delivered through two programs. Thus; agricultural transformation program and Farmers solution program. Under the agricultural transformation program, six African countries will receive a catalyze transformation intervention and five other African countries will receive sustainable transformation interventions. Meanwhile the farmer solution program will focus on productivity and resilience, Human and institutional capacity developments.

In addition he said, AGRA cannot do it all alone. All stakeholders are needed on board for partnership to implement the needed programs.

He believes strongly that the program will develop small scale farmers who are into rice, maize, cassava, and soybeans from the grassroots level to a national commercial status. For Mr. Makinde, this is the best way of ensuring food security for Africa.
