Farmers across the country were commended for their immense contributions towards maintaining food security, and as well making meaningful impact towards the growth and development of Ghana’s economy.

The 2015 National best farmer awards were held in Bolgatanga Senior High School, and in all districts and municipalities. An occasion which brought various farmers and dignitaries to the Upper- East region.

At Wawase, a suburb of Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern region, the African faith tabernacle church headed by Senior Pastor Joseph Atta Nkansah, also received items including a spraying machine, 5 pieces of iron sheets, 6 cutlasses, 2 wellington boots, 2 pieces of wax prints, 2 bars of key soap and a certificate.

According to Pastor Atta Nkansah, the church received the awards for their engagement in the cultivation of a 2 acre onion and 3 acre hot pepper plantation which could give them an estimated amount of Ghc 40,000 when sold into the market. He added that the church engages in cash crop production to support members by financing them to begin trading, and also support them through their education at both secondary and tertiary levels.

He expressed his gratitude to members who through their voluntary works have contributed to the achievement of items, which will help them to expand their farming activities.

However, he was not happy about not getting external assistance from the municipal assembly and also the high interest rates attached to bank loans. He has therefore petitioned the government and banks to formulate financial policies that will help them produce on large scale.

The pastor also said that the items received though will augment their activities, the church was expecting to receive a tricycle popularly called ‘aboboyaa’ and has therefore petitioned the assembly and the government to devise formidable measures that will help improve farmers day celebration in the country.
