AFPEO Donates Health Equipment worth Over 6,000 USD to Djekiti Health Center

A local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern region has donated 24 different health delivery pieces of equipment to a health post situated in Djekiti, to facilitate smooth and efficient health care in the rural community.

Djekiti with residence mainly farmers, has nearby villages including Oporpa East, Tsredom, Ayimersu, Akoma Akorpah, Wawaase and Gortsonya that are likely to rely on the facility for health care.

Even though the newly completed Health Center was funded by the Municipal Assembly, the  NGO according to its Director, has played a key role in various ways.

At a brief handing over ceremony held on Friday, 8 January 2021, the Executive Director of Adolescent Friendly and Peer Educators’ Organization (AFPEO), Mr. Samuel K. Atter noted that the items which were funded by the USAID through the American Ambassador in Ghana cost six thousand five hundred US dollars, which is equivalent to thirty-five thousand eight hundred and fifty-four Ghana Cedis.

AFPEO and the community have directly contributed two thousand four hundred and one thousand one hundred Ghana cedis in the form of conveyance and communal labour respectively.

The items in their various quantities included delivery set and bed, wheelchair, weighing scale for both infant and adult, digital and unafraid thermometers, B. P. Apparatus, drip stand, epitome set, smart baby scale and examination couch.

The rest were bed screen, bed sheet cupboard, tables and chairs, writing desks, wooden beds and mattresses, benches, cabinets, and veronica buckets and stands.

For the absence of electricity in the community, AFPEO has also added a solar panel and accessories to power the deep freezer for stocking drugs as well as providing an electricity supply to the facility.

Mrs. Natalie Amey receiving the support on behalf of the Manya Krobo Health Directorate expressed gratitude to AFPEO and USAID for their timely support.

Natalie, the Public Health Nurse for the Directorate who charged the community to as a matter of duty take maintenance of the facility as well as the items seriously, and add it to their annual communal labour activity plan, has appealed to the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly to extend electricity into the Djekiti community.

 Dadematse Moses Tetteh, a member of the Community Health Management Committee on his part said, a toilet facility, water and kitchen for patients who are on admission at the health post were the most pressing needs of his committee.

According to him, though health workers at Djekiti health post carry water on motor bicycles from distant places to the facility for their work, they show a high community relationship that deserves commendation.

However, a representative of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly at the function, Ms. Margeret has assured her outfit will report the various appeals and challenges to the management of the Assembly for remedy.
