ADB drags Unicof to labour commission

The management of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has dragged the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF) to the National Labour Commission over what they describe as unfair malpractices and a display of bad faith on the part of the workers.

In a petition dated May 19, 2015 and signed by the Executive Head of Human Resources, Naa Akweley Bulley, the bank wants the Labour Commission to call UNICOF to order since to them their continuous display of unfair labour practices is negatively affecting the finances of the bank.

Following the petition, the Labour Commission has written to UNICOF to study the complaints and respond to the issues by next week Tuesday.

Confirming receipt of the petition, the General Secretary of UNICOF, John Asiapeh said it was an attempted diversion from the main issues being raised by the union.

He said, “Taking a cursory look at it, it seems all manner of things are being done just to distract attention from the substantive issues before the people of Ghana. And we believe that none of these will succeed because the fact is that ADB has been run down and those who have run it down want to be given more money.”

UNICOF is urging the government to compel the Managing Director of the ADB, Mr Stephen Kpordjih to proceed on leave while investigations begin into allegations of corruption at the bank.

The workers are accusing Mr Kpordjih and members of the ADB Board of misappropriation of the banks finances in its decision to the bank’s headquarters for 10 million dollars whilst it rents a new premises at 1 million cedis a month.
