Abuakwa North Municipal Releases Over Ghc108, 000 Government Scholarship To Tertiary Students

As part of government’s effort to promote quality and affordable education in Ghana, the Scholarship Secretariat Of Ghana has decentralized its operations to the district, municipal and metropolitan levels.
In view of this, Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, has received a sum of Ghc108,100.00 as scholarship bursary for ninety two (92) beneficiaries who are students in various tertiary institutions in Ghana.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Owusu Twum-Ampofo, in an exclusive interview explained that, the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP government upon realizing that, brilliant but needy students drop out mostly after Senior High School, necessitated the idea of decentralizing the Scholarship Secretariat to the district, municipal and metropolitan levels for easy access contrary to the previous years, where the scholarships were given to people in government who could have afforded their fees.
“In the past, people drop out of school because of financial constraints, but for the timely intervention of the newly appointed registrar of the scholarship secretariat, people are able to access the scheme at the district , municipal and metropolitan levels unlike the previous administration where wards of government appointees who could afford their fees were given the scholarship bursary. Abuakwa North Municipality was lucky to receive Ghc 108,100.00 for ninety two (92) beneficiaries with bursary ranging from Ghc1000 to Ghc6000. This has put smiles in the faces of all and sundry,” Hon Owusu Twum-Ampofo mentioned.

Hon Owusu Twum-Ampofo advised all beneficiaries to make government proud by learning harder to make the scholarship awarded them worthy, for the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP administration is committed to serving the citizenery proactively contrary to the previous administration where state coffers were used by cronies to build mansions for themselves.

He therefore urged all eligible voters to come out and vote massively for “yes” in the December 17th, 2019 referendum for the amendment of article 55(3) of Ghana’s constitution to allow Ghanaians to decide whether political parties should be allowed to sponsor candidates for district level elections and also surprise the president in 2020 general election.
