A Program Held To Cultivate The Habit Of Reading In Students.

Oye Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization founded by Mad. Abigail Anani mainly to help promote education and to cultivate the habit of reading in students at rural areas had its second edition held at Volivo-Lanor, Asutsuary in the Shai Osudoku District.

The dream according to her came out of her personal experience of having her basic school education at a rural area.

They were faced with challenges where parents took their wards out of schools to farm due to economical problems.

The program which was held at Volivo-Lanor d/a Presby Basic School got two representatives from class 3 to 6 from schools such as; Volivo-Lanor D/A Presby Basic School, Kotorkor D/A Basic School, Kasunya R/C Basic School, Lubuse R/C Basic School, Nyapienya D/A Basic School, Atrobianya D/A Basic School, Kasunya D/A Basic School.

The best performing classes will be selected with two representatives from those classes who will be supported with 1000ghs and all the contestants will be awarded with school bags, she added.

The Human Resource Manager for Golden Exotics, Mr. Mark Achel, disclosed that though they built classroom blocks and other infrastructures to help schools, they decided to sponsor the Foundation to improve the reading and writing ability of the students.

The Assistant Director for Supervision at the Shai Osudoku Education Service, Mr. Francis Otchere, the Chairperson, thanked the Foundation for their resources, efforts and capacity building to ensure the improvement of students reading in schools.

Mr. Emmanuel Afful, the Deputy National Coach for Spelling B, Ghana and also the Judge for the competition praised the students for their good performances. Spelling, reading, mother and child and other areas where all factors for judging the competition, he said.

A teacher at Volivo-Lanor Presby D/A Basic School, Mr. Promise showered praises on the Foundation for coming in to help them achieve their greatest wish. He also urged students to involve themselves in educational programs to enable them learn more.

Students who were present thanked Oye Foundation for such a program and requested for more to be done. They also pleaded for stakeholders to join the Oye bus to enable the dream of helping students travel far.

After the competition, Kasunya D/A Basic School the winners of the 2018 edition immerged as the overall winner for the second time.

The trophy was then presented to school by the Chairperson, Mr. Otchere.
