Eastern Regional Minister Visits Schools
Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Kwakye Daffuor is touring the various Senior High Schools in the region to access the arrival of students who have been enrolled on the free S.H.S. programme.
Some schools the minister visited, parents were in a haste to get their children registered to avoid shortage of boarding admission.
According to him, heads of some of the schools have complained that more fresh students were placed in their schools than requested.
“Some institutional heads complains about the number of students the CSSPS has placed in their schools; more than the number they required which will affect their facilities especially the boarding houses,” he told Captain Adabugar.
He further informed parents that, most Senior High Schools are holding onto their traditional costumes with approval from either parent teacher associations or old student groups. Meanwhile, the minister stressed, they are optional and parents must decide.
He therefore urged parents and guardians to pay for those items but must take note they are not government initiative.
Free S.H.S policy was one of the doubtful initiatives in the president’s campaign messages since 2008. The reality of the programme is as a dream and shock to most Ghanaians. However, reports across the country indicates that many parents and Ghanaians have thrown their support behind the programme since the last 48 hours.
