46% Of Teachers Do Not Prepare Lesson Notes – Report

The latest report by the National Inspectorate Board of the Ghana Education Service, GES, has revealed that forty-six percent of teachers do not prepare lesson notes, majority of the culprits being in the Senior High Schools.

The Acting Director-General of GES, Jacob Kor, made this known at a forum in the Eastern Regional capital Koforidua.

The forum was attended by stakeholders in education including Heads of Senior High, Technical and Vocational Schools, the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools and the Educational Units.

Mr Kor who was in the region as part of his nationwide familiarisation tour stressed that there can’t be effective teaching without lesson notes, warning that recalcitrant teachers risk losing their promotion.

He charged School Heads to enforce the rule to ensure effective teaching.

Mr Kor expressed worry over teachers’ lateness and absenteeism and the seeming inaction of the Heads.

He charged Heads of Schools to conduct a census of teachers on the Distance Education programme, and put an embargo on the salaries of those without prior approval.

He hinted that the service will soon introduce a policy on the Sandwich Programme to bring sanity into the educational sector.

Mr Kor emphasised that Heads of Schools will be charged with the responsibility of ensuring the success of the policy.
