3 Metro Mass Transit Workers Arrested For Embezzlement

Three staff of the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Company in Wa were yesterday arrested by the Upper West (UW) regional police command for allegedly embezzling funds belonging to the Wa metro mass transit welfare association.

The three are: Danyuo Solomon 27,Hamidu Yahaya 35 and Issahaku Mahama 52.

Citi News sources at UW regional police command revealed that their arrest was made after a member of the association, John Mahama, reported to the police that he conducted a check on the association’s account number 9040001323436 at Stanbic bank Wa branch and detected that a cash sum of GH¢26140.00 was withdrawn on separate occasions without the notice of the association.

Following investigations, Donyuo Solomon, treasurer of the association, was picked up by the police. Upon interrogations, he mentioned Issahaku Mahama chairman of the association and Hamidu Yahaya, a trustee to the account as his accomplishes.

ASP Edmond Nyamekye, acting Upper West regional police public relations officer, confirmed the incident to citi new but refused to give further comments. “I will not want to comment on the issue at the moment because of some security reasons but I can tell you that three people were arrested in connection with the case” He said.

Citi news can report that a team of auditors have been contracted by the police to help carry a full investigation into the account. A report is expected on Monday to commence prosecution.

Meanwhile the three have been granted bail pending investigation.
