The Volta Regional Minister, Mrs. Hellen Adwoa Ntoso is surprised at the noise about the Ebola vaccine at Hohoe stating it is not the only town selected, Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region has also been selected. Aside that, there are percussions aligned to the vaccination excluding pregnant women and diabetic patients.
According to her, the Ebola vaccine has not yet started in Hohoe as speculated in the country. Clearing further, she explained Hohoe was not just chosen for any menial reason but for the fact that most research and testing of the food and Drugs authority are conducted there due to their facilities.
She stated that, before the vaccines can be used as a trail, FDB must first certify to confirm that the vaccines are not harmful to human. “A meeting was held yesterday for a member of the team to brief the people about how the vaccination will go revealing that, pregnant women and diabetic patient are exclusive and only thirty-six (36) people are need for the trail” she reiterated.
Mrs. Ntoso stated that the Ebola vaccine team was asked during the meeting if the vaccines will not have any effect on the target people and the team explained, it has no negative effect rather the trial vaccine has a “minute protein content” besides the Ebola virus will not be injected into anybody’s system. She assured a special meeting with medical officials and the trial vaccine team for clarification.
In other development, the minister of health Alex Segbefia has called for the suspension of the trial vaccination.
