Vegetable farmers to chase minister for cold vans

The president of vegetable producers and exporters association of Ghana.

Mr. Joseph Tonto has said that, they will soon chase the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Amed Alhassan Yakubu for the release of cold vans to support their activities.

There were cold vans bought at a reported cost of over £600,000 under the Export Marketing Quality Awareness Programme in 2010 to ensure that harvested vegetable and other horticulture products are protected from decay prior to export.

These vans were acquired by government with a loan from the African Development Bank. The brand new trucks have been left at the mercy of the harsh weather at the premises of the Agric ministry whilst the vegetable producers and exporters Association hustle over how to acquire the trucks for their operations.

Mr. Tonto speaking to Rite News in an interview on how to access the cold vans said, they have made several attempts to go in for the vans but the ministry of food and agriculture has not released the vans for them.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Amed Yakubu has denied that the ministry will not release the vans for them but rather call for better negotiations in the form of proposal, after then, they can have access to it.

Hon. Yakubu has explained that ever since that they discussed this, the ministry has not heard any information from the farmers as to whether they are interested to come for the cold vans.
