Two Fulani suspected armed robbers arrested

Sunyani, Aug 4, GNA – The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected Fulani armed robbers, who attempted to break into somebody’s room at Meremako, near Drobo in the Jaman South District.

Briefing the Media on Monday in Sunyani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr. Maxwell Sakipasgo Atingane, Regional Police Commander, mentioned the names of the suspects as Abubakari Jaro Taara, 30, and Abdulai Ibrahim, 19.

DCOP Atingane said, on July 29, at about 2230 hours, the two suspects armed with pump action gun, cutlass, club and other offensive weapons, attempted to break into the room of one Madam Victoria Gyamfuaah at Meremako.

He said the suspects fled into the bush when the victim raised an alarm, saying the neighbours chased them and arrested Ibrahim but Taara escaped.

The Regional Police Commander said a search on Ibrahim revealed five wrappers of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, three BB cartridges, wooden clubs and a torch light.

DCOP Atingane said on August 1, the Police, acting on public information that somebody was holding a gun and patrolling the area, arrested Taara from his hide-out, with the assistance of the residents.

He said the Police also found 19 cartridges in a bullet belt, three mobile phones, machete, talisman, amulet and kitchen knife on him.

DCOP Atingane said at the Police station, based on radio announcement a man came to identify one of the mobile phones as his, and told the Police that he was attacked by suspects on his return from farm.

He disclosed that the suspects would be put before court on Tuesday, August 4, on charges of possession of narcotic drugs and offensive weapons, attempted robbery and robbery.
