About 210 elderly people at Somanya in the Eastern Region have benefitted from free health screening organised by Stanbic Bank, in collaboration with Onua Pa Foundation.
The initiative was in the bid to bring free basic health care to the doorsteps of the aged, while encouraging frequent health screening.
Onua Pa Foundation is an NGO which advocates for better care for aged women and men. The foundation also organises periodic medical and dental screening, health talks and get-togethers for the elderly in the selected towns and villages.
Stanbic Bank supported this year’s exercise with a cash donation of GHS6000 as well as food and confectionary worth GHS4000. Staff of the Bank also spent time interacting with the elderly and volunteered to aid the medical team with the screening activities.
According to Dr. Ernest Kofi Asimenu, Head, Private Banking, this cause is in line with Stanbic’s firm commitment to support communities and help the vulnerable move forward.
“Stanbic chose to come support the elderly in Somanya because a lot of young people leave areas like this to Accra in search for greener pastures and in pursuit of their careers, and there’s usually no one to support the elderly,” he said.
“We believe the time our staff members have spent with these people will also go a long way to add value to their lives.”
The beneficiaries were screened for blood pressure and sugar levels, after which they were counselled on how to reduce diseases related to old age.
