Rite FM to hold training for PTAs, SMCs

Over 40 Parent Teacher Association and School Management Committee executives from the ten Rite FM’s District Education Observer Project (DEOP ll) Schools will be giving a day capacity building training workshop scheduled for 25th October, 2017 at the Wesley Methodist Church in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
While other stakeholders including representatives from Regional and Municipal Directorates come in as resource persons, Member of Parliament for the Constituency and Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) will  be attending the capacity building workshop as dignitaries  gracing the event.
The workshop will be equiping PTA and SMC Executives with skills and roles which will enable them discharge their responsibilities towards the success of their wards education.
The project Coordinator, Mr. Goldman Awuku in an interview with Ritefmonline.org, affirmed that one of the main objectives of the project is to ensure involvement of community members, School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) in school management and its related activities.
“After the completion of the Community Scorecard phase, there is the need to hold a training workshop to build the capacities of SMC and PTA Executives to enhance their knowledge on their roles and responsibilities in the involvement of school management,” he said.
Further, he said “the training will be one day workshop which will come off Thursday 26th October 2017 at Wesley Methodist Hall in the Yilo Municipality of the Eastern Region.”
The Community Score Card has unfolded teaching and learning deficiencies including poor classrooms, multiple pupils sharing mono or dual desks, lack or absence of text books and Teaching Learning Materials (TLM), parents or community low involvements in pupils schooling needs and activities.
Meanwhile, Hon. Lawyer Kofi Amoatey (MP) Yilo Krobo Constituency has promised the public to take up problems identified from the project.
The District Education Observer Project (DEOP) II which is supported by STAR-Ghana with funding from UKaid, DANIDA and DFID and powered by Rite FM in partnership with Chrismek Rights Foundation will end May, 2018.
The Community Scorecard phase ended 3rd Otober 2017, after which over 500 participants including teachers, parents and pupils were interacted with.
The exercise assessed pupils, teachers and parent’s perception and feedback on educational related issues in 10 rural schools in the Yilo Krobo Municipality. Action Plan and strategies were developed for improvement.
