Residents of Toska Sharing Space With Rubbish Dump and Toilet

Residents of Toska a suburb of the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region are calling on the assembly to come to their aid rid their area of a refuse container which is a serious health risk to them. But that is not all; they are also calling on their authorities to halt the construction of a toilet facility close to the container.

According to them, the refuse container has been placed very close to their homes which mean they practically share space with the refuse. Even more worrying is the situation whereby the assembly refuses to lift the container on time, resulting in the refuse overflowing from the container and leaving their surroundings in total mess and posing all the health hazards.

A visit by Rite FM news to the scene confirmed the plight of the residents. The picture was that of a large Zoomlion container overflowing with a lot of rubbish and very close to the homes of residents. Also very close to the container was the foundation for the construction of an intended toilet facility which was also very close to and cited between houses.

The District Environmental Health and sanitation Officer, Madam Doris Acquah Apreku admitted that indeed she had received such complaints from residents. She said that a sanitation officer from her outfit made an inspection tour of the place in question and found out that indeed where the refuse container and toilet facility were sited leaves much to be desired.

She said all attempts to get a new site for the container and toilet facility have proved futile. In the meantime, she assured residents of a consultation with the District Chief Executive of the Asuogyaman district for a prompt resolution of the problem.
