Pineapple Production Has High Market Value

Mr. Henry Asare a mixed crop farmer who cultivates plantain, cassava and pineapple at Boadeso in the Eastern region has been sharing with Rite news his experience in farming which he has been engaged in over the past 25 years.

Speaking to him on the Akuafo Se Sen segment of the Rite Morning Ride, Mr. Asare revealed that though he was previously only a maize and cassava farmer, he decided to shift to and concentrate more on pineapple production since that crop has more market value both on the local market and exportation.

He said though circumstances changed, resulting in difficult times for pineapple production which compelled a number of farmers to stop the cultivation of the crop, market has picked up again since 2014.

That’s not to say it’s all rosy; Mr. Asare went ahead to spell a number of challenges facing pineapple farmers. He said the high input rate, high cost of land preparation; suckers as well as fertilizer cost continue to confront pineapple farmers.

He however added that the farmer stands to recoup his investments and a substantial profit if he puts in good farming practices.
