Pay Attention To Cotton Farming

By Austin Ofori Addo

Cotton farmers in the Northern part of the country have called on the attention of the government to focus on cotton production because the business has really collapsed as long as they are concerned.

In an interview with Mr Abdul Raman, member of the Cotton Farmers Association on the Rite Morning Ride, he said they were uncertain about the future of cotton production because the association will now sit and do analysis on their 2014/2015 cotton production season before they can predict 2016 production.

He said there were no companies with the capacity to support the farmers to produce the cotton in large quantities. According to him, the three companies tasked by the government to take care of cotton production have failed in this drive which means they now depend on small companies which do not adequately meet the demands of the farmers.

Beside, Mr. Abdul said the hamattan was badly affecting agricultural activities in the Northern Region because farmers cannot endure the harsh cold conditions in the early hours to their farms. He said farmers that cultivate onion, pepper and other farmers have to water their crops in the early mornings but are unable to do so due to the freezing conditions in the Northern Region.
