By Ahiador Catherine:

Pope John Senior High School has emerged winners in this year’s Eastern Regional ‘No Yawa’ debate competition held at Koforidua over the weekend. The debate which involved seven Senior High Schools from across the region saw Pope John shedding off stiff competition from the other schools to secure a valuable score of 54 out of 60 to emerge proud victors.

The debate which forms part of the ‘No Yawa’ inter schools debate competition, seeks to bring together 80 Senior High Schools from across the country that have benefited from DKT’s Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) education program, (No Yawa), to a common platform to basically showcase their knowledge level across several selected SRH topics in the form of a debate.

Ten regional competitions including the Eastern Region are held prior to the national debate.

The main objective of the ‘No Yawa’ debate competition is to educate students between the age range of 15 and 24 of their reproductive health issues.

This year’s Eastern Regional ‘No Yawa’ debate competition took place at the Apenteng Hall of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Koforidua. Seven schools from the region including the Yilo Krobo Senior High School, Pope John, Krobo Girls, Aburi Girls, Mpraeso Senior High, Begoro Presec and Christian Heritage Senior High partook in the debate.
