Mushroom Farmers urged to form Associations

The Director of Exhibition on Farmers Day celebration at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) Mr. Kingsley Obeng has tasked mushroom farmers to form vibrant Associations to enable them address challenges they have been encountering in their activities.

The President of Mushroom Growers and Exporters Association of Rev. Theophilus Kwartey has questioned government why it has not support the mushroom production in the country.

According to him, government needs to support the industry, it has medical benefit and economic potentials which can generate income into the country and stabilized the economy.

Mr. Obeng speaking to Rite news in respond to the call from the mushroom farmers has urged the farmers to come to the ministry of food and Agriculture anytime they are having such challenges adding that MOFA has a directorate that deals with mushroom production of which farmers can go there to seek for support and training assistance.

He noted that these mushroom farmers do not have access to credit facilities from the banks because they do not have vibrant associations.

Mr. Obeng admitted that   most mushroom farmers are not recognized or nominated for famers day awards but entreated the mushroom farmers to do well in their farming in other to get recognition.
