Method of teaching a contributing factor to students failure- P. R. O. of G .E. S

The Public Relations Officer ( P. R. O) for the Upper Manya Ghana Education Service (G. E. S)  unit has said that, the method and the approach some teachers use in teaching is a contributing factor to the poor marks student score in mathematics and science.

Mr. Fredrick Asante explained that, mathematics is a practical subject that needs a practical approach and not an abstract one, adding that some teachers for instance teaching a class one pupil might think he is teaching (teacher) colleagues and would use abstract things or approach believing the pupil would understand.

He explain further that, when a teacher uses the wrong approach or an abstract approach, it makes the pupils think that, math as a subject is something not in existence which in turn diminishes pupils interest for the subject.

He noted that the Upper Manya Education unit revealed that  it has realized such problem in its districts and it is organizing a workshop for teachers to train them on the right approach to making math as a subject attractive to students.

The unit also realized that students fail science and math subject due to poor foundation at the basic level, starting from kindergarten to class three (3).
