MANGO FARMERS EDUCATED ON HOW TO USE CHEMICALS.

Mango farmers in the Eastern Regional town of Yilo krobo are being educated on how to effectively use chemicals in farming through a programme sponsored by the IFBC and HPW.  Mr. Shakespeare Djokoto, an Agricultural consultant for the programme said, farmers lacked the needed skills in the application of chemicals such as pesticide, herbicide, fertilizer among others.

“The improper application of chemicals affects the production of the fruit which results in the poor quality of mango fruits produced by farmers,” he said. He also noted that farmers were facing huge challenges in the application of appropriate chemicals needed for improved yield. This comes as a result of the low level of education on the proper application of the chemicals given to the farmers.

He also said, the inadequate storage facility and the high cost of farm inputs was also another problem facing the Mango farmers which in turn negatively affect the profit margin of the farmers. He further noted that the problem of irrigation and the lack of management practices on the side of farmers have totally affected the production of the fruit.

He finally advised farmers to take the education seriously as it will help them improve their farm yield.
