Kwesi Appiah reveals Egypt game was to help build formidable squad for 2019

Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has revealed the final group game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Egypt was meant to be a buildup exercise for the future.

Egypt held Ghana to a 1-1 draw in Cape Coast on Sunday after Mohammed Sikabala had opened the scoring for the Pharaoh’s on the hour mark before Edwin Gyasi equalized with a brilliant strike three minutes later.

Speaking to the press after the game, head Coach Kwesi Appiah confirmed the game was supposed to be used to build a formidable team for 2019 since they were already out of contention for a place in Russia.

“We knew we were already out of the race to qualify for the world cup so i wanted to give other players the opportunity to see what they can offer my new team for 2019.” He said.
