KWAHU CARGO DRIVERS ASSOSIATION GOES WILD OVER INCREASING FOREST BILL

By Krobea Asante Tofepa

Some cargo drivers who ply the Nkawkaw – Afram plains road have expressed gross dissatisfaction over increasing forest bill in the district. This came to light when members called a press conference today at Maame Krobo in the Afram plains south district.

According to Mr. Yaw Agyei, public relations officer of the Kwahu cargo drivers association, the new forestry boss brought from Mpraeso to steer affairs in the Afram plains is making their work very difficult and unprofitable as all monies leave them as bills.

Yaw Agyei said that, before the arrival of the new forestry boss, members of the association paid Ghc 3 as bill but was increased to Ghc 25 and later increased again to Ghc 70 in less than 6 months which pushed members of the association to the wall. He added that on Sunday, 29th of November 2015, the forestry boss conveyed a meeting with the drivers at Tease, in the Afram plains south district where he announced that, a new bill was underway to take effect from Tuesday, the 31st of November where members with cargo cars will have to pay Ghc 250 and those with Kia Rhino paying Ghc 150.

“This is a blow to us and we find something very fishy in the whole situation” he added. He has therefore pleaded with government and the district chief executive to probe the new forestry boss as his actions negatively had a direct bearing on their business and tarnishing the image of his Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

Mr. Yaw Agyei has cautioned that, if their plea to authorities is not responded to then they have no option than to withdraw their services
